Evansville, IN – As winter weather approaches, Evansville road crews are taking proactive steps to ensure the city’s roads remain safe. The city’s transportation department has begun applying a brine mixture to roadways and loading snowplow trucks in preparation for the impending storm.
Todd Robertson, the Executive Director of Transportation and Services, explained that crews have been preparing all year for the challenges winter brings. With several new snowplows fueled up and ready, the department is poised to tackle any icy or snowy conditions. Robertson acknowledged that the forecast predicts a mix of ice and snow, but with the storm expected to arrive over the weekend, crews hope to have everything in place for a smooth response by Monday morning.
“We’re ramping up to handle whatever comes our way,” Robertson said. “We’re fortunate that the storm may hit on a weekend, which gives us extra time to get ready.”
Robertson also reminded residents to exercise caution when encountering snowplow trucks. Due to the heavy load of salt these trucks carry, they are unable to stop abruptly. He urged drivers to give snowplows ample space on the roads to ensure the safety of everyone.
Once snow begins to accumulate, all available road crews will be deployed to clear streets. If the snow lingers for several days, crews will work in shifts to efficiently address all areas of the city, ensuring timely responses to changing weather conditions.
With winter weather on the horizon, Evansville’s road crews are ready to face whatever challenges the season may bring.
