EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Evansville Police have launched an investigation following a reported dog attack on a juvenile Sunday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Michigan Street after a 911 caller alerted authorities about a dog that had attacked a child, and possibly others. Upon arrival, police found the injured juvenile and the dog involved in the incident.
According to the police report, the dog was found chained up behind a nearby house. In addition to the attacking dog, a second dog was discovered locked inside a garage without access to food or water, raising concerns of possible neglect.
Both the Evansville Police Department and Animal Control took immediate action, collecting information and taking a formal report on the incident. Authorities have not yet released specific details about the juvenile’s condition or the breed of the dogs involved.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading up to the attack and address the situation with the second dog.
Animal control officials are continuing to assess the welfare of the animals, while the police are conducting interviews and gathering further information. No arrests have been made at this time.
