Evansville, Ind. — The Evansville Police Department (EPD) took swift action on Monday to address growing concerns about speeding on the Lloyd Expressway. In a special speed enforcement operation, the EPD’s Traffic and Crime Prevention Units came together for a four-hour detail aimed at curbing dangerous driving behaviors on one of the city’s busiest roads.
According to EPD officials, a total of 77 drivers were stopped during the operation, which led to 57 citations being issued. Additionally, officers handed out 33 warnings and made one arrest. The heightened enforcement was in direct response to numerous complaints from community members who had raised concerns about speeding along the expressway.
The enforcement detail is part of a broader effort to ensure safer road conditions in the city, especially as speeding has been identified as a recurring issue on the Lloyd Expressway. Residents had voiced frustrations over the growing number of drivers exceeding posted speed limits, contributing to concerns about safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
EPD officials emphasized that the primary goal of the operation was not only to issue citations but also to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding. The department has made it clear that it will continue to monitor traffic patterns and respond to public concerns in an effort to keep Evansville’s roads safe.
As of now, there has been no indication of whether further details will be planned in the coming weeks, but residents are hopeful that the increased police presence will encourage safer driving habits across the city.
