EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A local man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of neglecting his 11-month-old son, resulting in the child’s death.
Taylor Fischer, 30, was sentenced for the charge of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death following the tragic passing of his son, Carsen, in October 2023. According to court records, the infant died after fentanyl and other drugs were found in his system.
The court documents reveal that Fischer will receive over 450 days of jail credit for time already served. In addition, the court recommended that Fischer be evaluated for treatment while incarcerated at the Indiana Department of Corrections.
The case has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of drug abuse and its devastating effects, particularly on children. The circumstances surrounding Carsen’s death have left a community mourning the loss of a young life, while also highlighting the serious consequences for individuals responsible for the care of vulnerable children.
Fischer’s sentence is a reminder of the harsh penalties for neglect, particularly when it results in the death of a child.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and Fischer’s case serves as a somber reflection of the dangers posed by substance abuse.
Meanwhile, Carsen’s mother, Kaytlen Dossett, is scheduled for a review hearing in March 2025 as part of the ongoing legal proceedings in connection with the tragic incident.
