EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning on I-69. The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 33-year-old Anthony Summers of Evansville.
The incident unfolded around 5:30 a.m. when deputies were called to the 11.5-mile marker of the interstate, near Pigeon Creek, following reports of a car leaving the roadway and entering the creek. Upon arriving at the scene, responders discovered the vehicle submerged beneath the Pigeon Creek Bridge.
The Evansville Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team was dispatched to the location to assist in retrieving the vehicle. Once the car was pulled from the creek, authorities confirmed that Summers had died at the scene.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), a witness provided details of the crash, stating that the car was traveling southbound when it veered off the road into the median. The vehicle traveled approximately 400 feet before hitting an embankment, becoming airborne for an estimated 85 feet before plummeting about 27 feet into the creek below.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities are continuing to gather information.
