EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Angel Lopez was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash following an incident late Saturday night, May 24.
According to official documents from the Evansville Police Department, officers responded to reports of a hit-and-run on Evans Avenue, where a 2019 silver BMW was found damaged on the driver’s side.
Police discovered nine open containers of alcohol inside Lopez’s vehicle, including beer and whiskey, all partially consumed or empty. Lopez admitted to drinking alcohol earlier but denied driving under the influence. He also claimed that someone forced him into the vehicle involved in the crash, a statement that contradicted the damage patterns on his car.
The owner of the BMW, who was not present at the time of the crash, expressed her intention to press charges.
Lopez faces charges of drunk driving and leaving the scene of a crash as the investigation continues.
