EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Evansville man was arrested on May 31 after allegedly driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash, according to an affidavit from the Evansville Police Department.
James Lawson faces multiple charges, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent (ACE) of .15 or higher, and leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage.
Officers reported observing Lawson near his truck on Harmony Way, which had a damaged wheel. Lawson appeared intoxicated and admitted to drinking “enough” beer. A preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of .239, nearly three times the legal limit.
Police discovered damage to another vehicle on Harmony Way, indicating Lawson’s truck had struck it before coming to a stop.
Following the incident, Lawson was transported to Deaconess Midtown for medical clearance and subsequently booked into the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center.
Lawson has a prior conviction for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated from 2019 in Posey County.
