Evansville, IN – A 33-year-old man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence early Saturday morning after being found in the drive-thru of a Taco Bell on North Willow Road. The Evansville Police Department responded to the scene after receiving reports of a vehicle stopped in the drive-thru lane.
When officers arrived, they made contact with the driver, identified as Codie Draper. Police reported that they could immediately smell alcohol coming from Draper’s vehicle. After asking him if he was okay, Draper admitted to consuming alcohol, telling officers that he had “taken a couple of shots of vodka” before driving to get food.
Draper was asked to step out of the vehicle and submitted to a breathalyzer test on the scene. He registered a BAC of 0.194, and later, a more detailed chemical test at the Vanderburgh County Jail revealed a BAC of 0.205—more than two and a half times the legal limit of 0.08.
A search of Draper and his vehicle uncovered several mini bottles of alcohol in his pants pocket, along with additional bottles in the center console, including a 375 ml bottle that was found to be empty.
Draper was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a BAC of 0.15 or higher. He was later released following the arrest.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving, especially when operating a vehicle with such a high level of impairment. Authorities continue to urge drivers to make safe choices and avoid driving under the influence.
