EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A 39-year-old Evansville man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly entering a neighbor’s home, falling asleep in the living room, and causing confusion when law enforcement arrived.
The incident unfolded just before 8 PM when officers responded to a reported burglary in progress on Ravenswood Court. According to the homeowner, the situation began when her grandchild went inside to let the family dogs out. Shortly after, the child returned, reporting that there was an unfamiliar man asleep in the living room chair.
When police arrived, the homeowner provided them with footage from a security camera, which clearly showed a man later identified as Jeremy Moschner fast asleep in the chair. Upon entering the residence, officers ordered Moschner to show his hands, but he failed to comply, responding with several confused and contradictory statements.
Sgt. Anthony Aussieker of the Evansville Police Department explained that Moschner initially claimed he was at his own home, then stated he was at his girlfriend’s residence. Moschner’s speech appeared slurred, and a strong odor of alcohol was detected on his breath.
After further investigation, it was revealed that Moschner actually lived next door to the victim and had mistakenly entered the wrong home. However, he was unable to explain how he gained access to the property in the first place.
As a result of his actions, Moschner was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of Residential Entry and Resisting Law Enforcement. Records show that he has since been released.
The case highlights the potential consequences of intoxication and confusion, as Moschner’s mix-up led to a tense situation for both him and the homeowners. Authorities are reminding residents to remain vigilant and cautious when dealing with unfamiliar situations.
