Evansville, IN — An Evansville man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly attacking another man during a dispute over money. The victim was pushed down a flight of stairs, struck repeatedly with a closed fist, and later cut by a steak knife, according to police.
At approximately 10:30 PM, the Evansville Police Department responded to a call on Maxwell Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a man with visible injuries, including a swollen face and a cut beneath his eye. The victim told police he had been arguing with Douglas Keasling, 45, over money when the altercation turned violent. The victim reported that Keasling pushed him from behind, causing him to tumble down a flight of stairs. He struck his head during the fall and briefly lost consciousness.
Afterward, Keasling allegedly continued the assault, punching the victim multiple times before grabbing a steak knife. The victim was reportedly struck with the knife below his eye. Officers located the bloodied steak knife in the living room of the residence and collected it as evidence. Keasling was arrested at the scene and taken into custody without further incident. Records show that Keasling has a history of violent offenses, including a prior charge of domestic battery involving strangulation in Illinois. He is now facing multiple battery charges related to Saturday’s incident and remains incarcerated in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, but police say Keasling’s violent history and the severity of the victim’s injuries are central to the ongoing case.
The victim’s current condition has not been disclosed, though he was treated at the scene for his injuries.
