Evansville, IN – The Evansville Fire Department officially placed its new Engine 2 into service during a traditional push-in ceremony held at Station 2.
The ceremony marks a long-standing fire service tradition that dates back to the era of horse-drawn fire apparatus, when firefighters manually pushed equipment back into stations after responding to calls. Today, the practice symbolizes the formal entry of a new engine into active service while honoring the history and heritage of the fire service.
Engine 2 was previously dedicated on December 18 in honor of retired District Chief Bruce Woodward, recognizing his years of service and contributions to the department and the Evansville community.
Fire department officials said the addition of Engine 2 reflects the department’s continued investment in public safety while preserving traditions that connect current firefighters with those who served before them.
