Evansville, IN – A 54-year-old Evansville man was arrested Sunday night after crashing his vehicle and then leaving the scene, only to return later while visibly intoxicated.
According to the Evansville Police Department, Brian Hobbs was involved in a crash at the intersection of W. Columbia Street and North Third Avenue. Officers say Hobbs fled the scene after the incident but later returned. When he did, police noted signs of intoxication.
Hobbs admitted to drinking, and a breathalyzer test revealed he had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .25, which is more than three times the legal limit for driving. Due to safety concerns, field sobriety tests were not performed on Hobbs.
He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and later taken into custody. Hobbs now faces charges related to the crash and operating a vehicle under the influence. He was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail following his release from the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
