Evansville, Ind. — While many residents stayed away from frozen water, the Evansville Fire Department’s B-Shift Dive Team used the cold conditions at Garvin Park to train for ice rescue scenarios.
In a social media post, the department said the training helps the team prepare for real-world incidents in which someone may fall through ice.
The department emphasized that the exercises ensure responders can act quickly and safely in emergencies involving icy water.
No incident was reported in connection with the training, which was conducted as a preparedness exercise.
