EVANSVILLE, Ind. — It Takes A Village No-Kill Rescue is urgently calling on the community for help after heavy rains have led to significant flooding at the shelter. The rising waters have overwhelmed the kennel spaces, forcing staff and volunteers to scramble for solutions to protect the animals in their care.
Despite efforts from workers and volunteers, who dug trenches to divert the floodwaters, the shelter has continued to experience water intrusion. This has left the organization in desperate need of temporary and long-term foster homes for both dogs and cats.
“We need to get the animals into homes where they can be dry and safe. The shelter is flooded, and it’s not a safe environment for them right now,” said Lori Martin, a dedicated volunteer at the rescue.
The shelter is open to individuals who are willing to foster a dog or cat, providing a safe haven for the animals while the shelter works to manage the crisis. Fosters are encouraged to come to the shelter at 1417 Stockwell Rd. between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to learn more about how they can help.
For those unable to foster, other forms of support, such as donations or volunteering, are always appreciated. The shelter is relying on the generosity of the local community to weather this challenging time.
As the floodwaters continue to impact the shelter, It Takes A Village No-Kill Rescue is hoping that the spirit of compassion will shine through, with many in the community stepping up to provide the animals with the care and shelter they desperately need.
