MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — A Mount Vernon man was arrested Tuesday morning after nearly crashing into a police cruiser while driving under the influence of marijuana and methamphetamine.
According to the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD), Officer Chris Brown was patrolling near Highway 62 and Leonard Road around 6 a.m. when the driver, identified as Keyton Whitney, abruptly pulled out in front of him, causing the officer to brake quickly to avoid a collision. The officer immediately initiated a traffic stop and approached Whitney’s vehicle.
During the stop, Officer Brown observed signs of marijuana use. Whitney, 29, admitted to smoking marijuana in his truck shortly before heading to work that morning. A search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana, and Whitney was placed under arrest.
While being transported to the Posey County Jail, Whitney informed authorities that he had a pipe hidden in his pants. Upon further investigation, the pipe tested positive for methamphetamine, leading to additional charges.
Due to the discovery of the methamphetamine in the jail, Whitney’s charges were enhanced. He was booked on charges of possession of meth in a penal facility, possession of methamphetamine, and operating while intoxicated.
Whitney is currently being held at the Posey County Jail. The MVPD is continuing its investigation.
