Evansville, IN – A double homicide investigation is now underway following the discovery of two bodies at the scene of a house fire early Tuesday morning. First responders were called to a home on East SR 64 near Francisco after reports of a fire. Upon extinguishing the flames, firefighters discovered the two bodies inside the residence.
Authorities with the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office later determined that the deaths were not accidental. Evidence collected at the scene indicated that the fire was intentionally set, and the deaths of the two individuals were deemed intentional as well.
During the investigation, law enforcement worked to locate 53-year-old Michael Kegg, a resident of the home. On Wednesday, Kegg was located and, after questioning, was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the deaths. While Kegg has been taken into custody, the sheriff’s office has emphasized that the investigation remains active, and further details are being closely examined.
Authorities have urged residents in the area to review any surveillance footage they may have from the days surrounding the incident, specifically between December 30 and December 31. They are asking anyone who may have observed suspicious activity to report their findings to the sheriff’s office.
At this time, the names of the deceased have not been released. The sheriff’s office stated that an autopsy is scheduled, and the identities will be made public once the pathologist completes the process.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement has asked the community to remain vigilant and report any additional information that may assist in resolving the case.
