GIBSON COUNTY, Ind. – A crash involving a cattle trailer caused significant traffic disruptions on Highway 41 near Patoka on Tuesday. The accident occurred when a truck hauling the trailer collided with two cars attempting to cross the highway.
According to deputies, the truck was traveling north when the cars attempted to cross in front of it, leading to the crash. The force of the collision caused the trailer to overturn, spilling the cattle onto the roadway.
Authorities reported that the three drivers involved sustained minor injuries, though no one was seriously hurt. The cows were also mostly unharmed, with the exception of one that had to be euthanized due to its injuries.
All the cattle were safely rounded up and removed from the scene. Crews worked quickly to clear the wreckage and ensure that traffic could resume. As of now, traffic is moving smoothly again in the area.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential hazards of transporting livestock on busy roadways, and officials urge drivers to exercise caution when approaching livestock haulers.
