EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Emergency crews responded to a large structure fire Sunday evening at an apartment complex located on Arbors Drive, drawing attention from nearby motorists and residents as thick smoke and flames were visible from Interstate 69.
According to Evansville Central Dispatch, the call came in shortly before 7:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes to find part of the apartment complex engulfed in flames. Multiple units from the Evansville Fire Department were dispatched to contain the blaze, which sent plumes of smoke into the evening sky.
Photos submitted by local residents and shared on social media show the extent of the fire, with flames appearing to shoot through the roof of the structure. The apartment complex has since been identified as Hornbrook Estates.
As of Sunday night, authorities had not confirmed any injuries, though emergency medical personnel were present at the scene as a precaution. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The extent of the damage to the building and the number of displaced residents have not yet been officially released. Fire crews remained on scene for hours, working to suppress the fire and conduct safety checks throughout the complex.
