Indianapolis, Indiana – In addition to having no available capacity to shelter incoming animals, Indianapolis Animal Care Services is in desperate need of adopters, the organization stated on Wednesday.
“Our situation is dire,” IACS Deputy Director Katie Trennepohl said. “We are out of dog kennels, dog crates, and cat kennels to house animals. The number of animals in our building is not sustainable for our staff to care for.”
The shelter has frequently pleaded with the neighborhood for help in finding homes for animals. More than 180 animals are out for adoption.
According to IACS, the majority of its animals have already undergone spaying or neutering, had age-appropriate vaccinations, and been microchipped, allowing for the adoption of the animals the same day.
“Cuddle Before you Commit,” a trial adoption program offered by the agency, allows potential adopters to foster an animal for 14 days before making a decision to adopt. On day 15, if all goes according to plan, the pet becomes legally yours.
The pre-adoption questionnaire should be filled out by anyone considering adoption.
IACS is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., barring Thursday. On Thursdays, the shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
